the princess / female /
the young princess, currently betrothed to an enemy prince, is an upstanding, noble, fearless, and stubborn young woman. she was separated from her friends when her mother, the queen, compelled her to begin her training as a future monarch. she was forced to distance herself from her friends of lower classes and begin her transition into high society. soon, her mother died, but the princess stayed in her lessons under the watchful eye of her governess. she is the leader and precious cargo of the group.
the musician / male / taken
this troubadour has spent most of his life alone, making a penny here or there where he can by jesting, playing music, composing poems, and doing all sorts of odd jobs. he too was left behind when the others were pulled away, and almost forgot them. he is funny, light-hearted, kind, and good-natured, a gentlemanly hedonist who rarely takes things as seriously as he should, but underneath the silly defense mechanisms lies a bright and loving heart. he is the spirit of the group, their motivator, the one who eases their days, makes them smile, and keeps them moving forward without heavy hearts.

this solitary huntress has largely been alone for most of her life; she is an adventurer, a free spirit, and will not be tied down to one place or social class. she was left behind when the others went their separate ways. she defies all expectations and does not often follow orders or etiquette, instead making her living as a bounty hunter. she's feisty, independent, and daring, completely unhindered by self-doubt, but frequently callous and cold as an arctic wind, with an “ends justify the means” attitude. she is the skill and resource of the group, having extensive knowledge of many important pursuits, including hunting, gathering, weaponry, and miscellaneous areas.
the stable boy / male /
he has been in service his entire life, on a similar plane as the peasant girl; he was separated from the others when his family needed him to work as well. in fact, he works in the palace stables, and occasionally encounters the princess; she used him as the messenger to summon all their other childhood friends to rally. an incurable bookworm wise beyond his years, he is often thought of as all brains and no brawn, scrawny and near destitute, yet with an education better than that of most nobles. he is the healer of the group, having extensive medical knowledge (albeit veterinary) and an affinity for animals and nature.
the peasant / female /
the daughter of a blacksmith and a palace scullery maid, this young maiden is of a low class but has a sparkling character. she is a total sweetheart, idealistic and friendly, and adheres rigidly to her code of honor. she was separated from the others when her parents asked her to start working as a servant to help support the family. although initially a bit shy, she is the moral compass of the group, always guiding the others back into place when they stray from their purpose.
the pirate / male /
the pirate's troubled childhood led him to a life of thievery and seafare. he was separated from the others when his drunkard of a father gave him up to some pirates to settle a debt. he quickly graduated from cabin boy to first mate, showing a fierce cunning, incisive wit and astonishing dueling skills, and then eventually struck out to plunder and pillage on his own. he's a lone wolf, sarcastic, defensive, apathetic, greedy, and at times selfish, but his soft spot is for his childhood friends, and they know it, no matter how hard he tries to hide it. he is the fighter of the group, with expert swordsmanship rivaling the knight's, and a knack for causing trouble, too.
the witch / female / taken
this young witch was a magical child, but as she grew older she learned her powers were more a curse than a blessing. witches and warlocks are set ablaze without trial in Itheriel. her magic is powerful and unconventional, but she is required to stifle it if she wants to stay alive. contrary to the pessimistic consensus on witches’ morals, there is no true evil in this young woman’s heart; she's simply misunderstood. she is intellectual, logical, creative, original, and quite the nonconformist. she was drawn away from the others when her full powers began to reveal themselves, and were too volatile to be exposed to the other small children… or the prying eyes of their families. she is the engine of the group, a vessel of power that protects them and propels them forward.
the knight / male /
beginning as a street rat, this boy was arrested after stealing a loaf of bread. rather than being executed, as king hal knew he was a friend of his little princess, the boy was entered into the knight's guild. his training separated him from the others, but he was able to remain close to the princess, as he was eventually assigned to be her personal guardian. he developed a rigid code of morals, and is brave, honorable, heroic, protective, and unyielding. he is the protector of the group, and would lay down his life for any of them, but particularly the princess, who has been his charge since childhood.
