I was thinking maybe something between a Human and an Elf, where the Elves lived in forests and never encountered humans? Like, the Elf gets exiled and then finds human civilisation, whilst expecting the world to be empty of buildings or anything.

I think depending on the gender will set the mood of the roleplay.
Because I'm thinking if it's a girl elf she could possibly be captured by a male of higher power or courted if we want to go a more romantic route
But if its a male elf I see it working better if the female human was a hunter or something of that kind

Fair enough... And nothing says the male elf couldn't be captured as well. I think something else that matters is the time period.
Like, is it wooden huts, Brick Villages or full on Concrete Cities with Roads and cars, because that'll impact how the Elf interacts with the world.

When you mentioned the plot I naturally thought of wooden huts/villages/kingdom timeline

Well, the Kingdom one would certainly explain why the Elves wouldn't have been aware of the Humans. Maybe there's some kind of legend about the Forest which keeps them out, whilst the Elves don't normally leave?
Yeah, more I think about it, the Medieval Kingdom idea makes more sense. I kinda like the idea of the Elf being male though, with the Human being a hunter who possibly catches him in a snare? Guess the main question is do you want to play the Elf or Human?
